Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Eichhorn! She has been awarded the 2012-2013 Distinguished Assistant Professor Award for Teaching. The award is another recognition for Dr. Eichhorn's excellent work in teaching and undergraduate education. Since joining the department in 2007, she has already earned several awards honoring her work and grants to support her future work. In her first year as an instructor at UCI, Dr. Eichhorn received the School of Physical Sciences Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. Dr. Eichhorn is also a co-PI on a nearly $2 million NSF PRISM grant, which has been used to create a research experience program in computational and applied mathematics for undergraduate students at UCI. Dr. Eichhorn was awarded one of the 2011 Alder Awards from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). This national award is in recognition of her outstanding teaching since her arrival at UCI in 2007. Most recently, Dr. Eichhorn, along with Dr. Rachel Lehman, was awarded the 2013 Instructional Technology Innovation Award from the UCI Teaching, Learning & Technology Center, for her work on two online mathematics courses in Algebra and Pre-Calculus. These two courses, which are the only courses from UCI, along with three courses designed by other US universities, are being offered through Coursera and are the first five massive open online courses to be recommended for transferable credit by The American Council on Education (ACE). The success has been reported in a recent LA Times article.
