Lai-Sang Young is a Professor of Mathematics and the Henry & Lucy Moses Professor of Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Professor Young received such honors as the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship (1985), NSF Faculty Award for Women (1991), AMS Satter Prize (1993), Guggenheim Fellowship (1997). In 2004 she was elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In 2007 Professor Young was chosen to deliver the AWM-SIAM Sonia Kovalevsky Lecture at the SIAM Conference on Applications of Dynamical Systems in recognition of her fundamental contributions in the field of ergodic theory and dynamical systems. The May-June 2007 issue of the AWM Newsletter declared: "Her pioneering research has had a significant impact in the investigation of dynamical complexity, strange attractors and probabilistic laws of chaotic systems. Her interests include theory, applications and deep connections to mathematical physics and probability. She is an inspiration to the entire mathematics community, especially to the women's mathematics community."
